While that may not be its case in the Indian market, MV Agusta does really have a rich history in the global markets. The brand made its debut in late 1945 when it was first introduced to the public. At first, it was supposed to be known as ‘Vespa 98’, but unfortunately, the name was already registered and it had to suffice with the marque ‘98’.
It began shipping to the consumers in the next year – that would be 1946 – and since then the brand has built a huge legacy not only in making road motorcycles but also in being a pioneer in the motorsport industry. The name MV Agusta was made popular for the first time when in 1948 Franco Bertoni won the 125cc in the Italian Grand Prix.
Since then, the manufacturer has won endless races in the Grand Prix, till it decided to retire from the same in 1976. The Indian innings of the marque began in 2016, when it decided to bring its highly lauded motorcycles to the Indian market via a partnership with Pune’s automobile major, the Kinetic Group in May 2016.
The first batch of motorcycles the brand bought to the Indian market was the F4, F3 and Brutale 1090, which were, later on, available at the brand’s first ‘Motoroyale’ dealership in Pune. The bikes were not meant for the mainstream consumers – as they were regarded as high-performance motorcycles – and therefore, the manufacturer couldn’t gather as much as sales numbers as it first anticipated. Even still, it kept the motorcycles in its product portfolio till before the BS-VI emission norms kicked in, and it had to discontinue its entire line-up.
So, since then, the manufacturer sells no two-wheelers in the Indian market. However, things are about to change in 2021, as the manufacturer is set to bring two new high-performance to our market before the end of this year. Here’s all we know about the upcoming MV Agusta motorcycles in India in 2021.
1. MV Agusta F3 800
The F3 800 from MV Agusta is a middleweight Supersport motorcycle, which MV Agusta bikes used to sell in the Indian market before the BS-VI emission standards came into force. Loosely translated, it is a fully-faired sports motorcycle that oozes style and comes packed with a high blend of performance. The sharper styling allows for an aggressive riding stance, which means it’s more of a track focussed performance machine than something to be ridden solely on city jaunts.
Moreover, it features a very thin tail section and triple exhaust section on the right side, which sets it apart from other motorcycles in the segment. Further, the Supersport motorcycle is expected to be powered by a 798cc engine, which is capable of churning out 142bhp and 88Nm of torque. It will be further mated to a six-speed manual gearbox. Expect the MV Agusta F3 800 to make a return with a BS-VI compliant engine by September 2021. It is expected to be priced around the Rs. 19 lakh mark (ex-showroom, Delhi).
2. MV Agusta Turismo Veloce 800
There were reports that MV Agusta is working on a new adventure bike range back in late-2020, however, there still isn’t any official confirmation to what new is coming our way. The Turismo Veloce 800, on the other hand, is the brand’s older model, which, like its above-mentioned sibling, used to be on sale in the Indian market before the BS-VI emission norms came into full force. Unlike the F3 800, the Turismo Veloce 800 is meant to be ridden as a comfortable sports adventure bike, which shall be compliant with not only dusty gravel surfaces but also should excel on smooth tarmac.
It is also expected to feature the same 798cc engine as its fully-faired sibling, which, however, is expected to produce 107bhp and 80Nm of torque with the Turismo Veloce 800. We expect MV Agusta to re-introduce the Turismo Veloce 800 alongside the F3 800 in the Indian market, which would be around September 2021. As for its pricing, we expect MV Agusta to bring the adventure sports bike as a CBU import, which would mean its price would be in the vicinity of the Rs. 20 lakh mark (ex-showroom, Delhi).
